Senator Tester introduces legislation to protect Montana rivers
(BOZEMAN, Mont.) – Montana Conservation Voters joins other conservation organizations in celebrating the reintroduction of U.S. Senator Jon Tester’s Montana Headwaters Legacy Act, which would protect 387 miles of iconic rivers under the Wild and Scenic designation.
With the influx of tourists and new residents, Montana rivers face historic levels of pressure from overuse. These critical waterways not only serve as prime destinations for recreation, but also as major economic engines for the surrounding communities. Wild and Scenic designation will ensure our prestinerivers will remain worldclass for future generations.
“We have countless visitors to Montana because our legacy lies in the water and land,” said Whitney Tawney, Executive Director of Montana Conservation Voters. “And it’s big business! These visitors won’t come to see our parking lots or polluted rivers. It’s high time Montana’s delegation stand together to protect what makes Montana the Big Sky State.”
Senator Steve Daines and Representative Matt Rosendale have yet to announce their support for this critical legislation that would help protect Montana’s clean water and rivers.
