(BILLINGS, Mont.) – Montana Conservation Voters today released the following statement from Executive Director Aaron Murphy in response to news that the Trump Administration plans to soon lift pollution standards for methane — a move that has reportedly been in the works for a year, even though the Environmental Protection Agency is now blaming the move on falling energy demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic:
“Sadly, President Trump’s latest assault on clean air no longer comes as a surprise. But let’s be clear: any candidate who thinks he can keep lying to Americans that the Trump Administration is anything but a boneheaded setback for conservation, needs to pick a side. You don’t get to be a conservationist when you make excuses for rolling back pollution standards that put our communities at risk. Our future generations deserve better, and smarter.”
The New York Times reports the EPA will make the decision final on Friday.
