(MISSOULA, Mont.) – Montana Conservation Voters Chairman Jock Conyngham today released the following statement in response to the appointment of former MCV Chairwoman Juanita Vero to the Missoula County Commission:

“Juanita will be a valuable addition to the Missoula County Commission, and we are eager to work with her and her fellow commissioners in our fight for clean air, clean water, public lands and voting rights. Juanita’s leadership, drive and conservation experience have served MCV well, and she will serve Missoula County well.”

Vero served as chairwoman of the Montana Conservation Voters’ Board of Directors from March 2010 until this March. She champions conservation as the owner of the E Bar L Ranch in Greenough.

Montana Conservation Voters has recruited, trained, endorsed and helped elect candidates to the Missoula County Commission since the MCV’s inception in 1999. This year marks the organization’s 20th anniversary year of working in elections in Montana, from city halls across the state to Congress.

HISTORY: MCV IN MISSOULA COUNTY

MCV has endorsed five successful candidacies for Missoula County Commission. MCV endorsed Commissioner Jean Curtiss in her first and second bids for the commission in 2000 and again in 2006.

MCV did not re-engage in Missoula County commission races again until 2014, in a response to the Commission’s support for converting and subdividing agricultural land. That year MCV supported Commissioner Cola Rowley, who defeated Vicky Gordon. In 2016 MCV supported Commissioner Dave Strohmaier.

In 2018 MCV supported Commissioner Josh Slotnick.
