Conservation group calls out Senator’s opposition to Montanan leading the BLM
(BOZEMAN, Mont.) – Montana Conservation Voters released the following statement from Executive Director Whitney Tawney in response to U.S. Senator Steve Daines’ vote in opposition to fellow Montanan, Tracy Stone-Manning’s nomination to lead the Bureau of Land Management:
“Tracy Stone-Manning’s breadth of support from a wide range of individuals from small businesses to loggers to sportsmen shows that she’s got the experience, qualifications and balanced temperament we need for the Bureau of Land Management. We applaud the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resource Committee for examining and lifting up Tracy’s 30 plus-year career of bringing all sides together and voting to move her nomination forward. At the same time, it’s an embarrassment that our own Senator on the committee, Senator Steve Daines voted against her nomination and put politics above what’s right for Montana’s outdoor way of life.”
Last year, Senator Daines came under fire for his support of then-President Donald Trump’s controversial nominee for the BLM, William Perry Pendley, who was a proponent of selling federal public lands. Stone-Manning’s nomination has been welcomed with positive reactions from a broad range of Montanans who have worked with her on important and difficult issues throughout her time working for Montanans at the state and federal level.
