Conservation Candidates Win Across State in Municipal Races

19 of 21 MCV-Endorsed Candidates Win in Municipal Elections

(BOZEMAN, Mont.)  – Montana Conservation Voters released the following statement from Executive Director Whitney Tawney in response to the municipal elections wins across the state for MCV-endorsed candidates:

“On behalf of Montana Conservation Voters, we congratulate the incoming pro-conservation mayors, city commissioners and city council members on their important victories. Montanans showed up to the polls yesterday and prioritized supporting leaders who will fight for our clean air, our clean water and our public lands. We’ve got a lot of work to do but are excited to roll up our sleeves and work together to protect Montana as the Last Best Place.” 

Voters in Missoula, Helena and Bozeman all elected mayors committed to addressing climate change and leading protection of open space in their communities. Whitefish, Missoula, Helena, Bozeman, Livingston and Billings protected or expanded the conservation majorities on their municipal councils and commissions.

MCV’s political action committee continued its long history of being engaged in municipal races, making strategic investments in support of pro-conservation candidates across the state. Over the course of the election, the MCV Action Fund sent over 27,000 pieces of direct mail and made 12,000 phone calls to voters. MCV also communicates regularly with its members in local communities about MCV-endorsed candidates.

Montana Conservation Voters endorses candidates who share a commitment to acting on climate, protecting our natural resources and smart sustainable growth. All MCV endorsements are made by its independent political action committee board with input from local MCV members. MCV is a nonpartisan 501(c)4 organization, which means candidates from all political parties are invited to seek MCV endorsement.
