MCV delivers message to Montana’s delegation: Remove William Perry Pendley now

(BOZEMAN, Mont.) – Montana Conservation Voters today sent a letter signed by more than 240 Montana constituents to Senator Jon Tester, Senator Steve Daines and Congressman Greg Gianforte urging swift action to remove acting director William Perry Pendley from the Bureau of Land Management.

“Mr. Pendley is a direct threat to our outdoor way of life and to Montana’s economy,” said Whitney Tawney, deputy director of Montana Conservation Voters. “The letter from Montana’s constituents addresses how he has long supported selling off our public lands to the highest bidder.”

MCV has long raised concerns about Pendley’s record opposing public lands. In 2016, Pendley told National Review that the “Founding Fathers intended all lands owned by the federal government to be sold.” He also represented energy companies looking to drill the Badger-Two Medicine region, which is sacred to the Blackfeet Nation. Pendley also told a Montana radio show that he’s part of a push “committed to developing all the lands.”

Pendley is currently acting director of the BLM, which oversees 250 million acres of publicly owned land. Although the Senate has yet to confirm his position, the Trump Administration extended Mr. Pendley’s post in January.
