MCV endorses Monica Tranel for First Congressional District

(BOZEMAN, Mont.)  – Today, Montana Conservation Voters formally endorsed Monica Tranel in her race for Montana’s First U.S. Congressional District.

“Growing up in eastern Montana gave me a deep appreciation for our outdoor spaces and tremendous natural resources,” said Monica Tranel. “MCV has been a steward of our public lands – I’m glad to have them with me in this campaign and will work to ensure the places we all love remain open to us, the people of Montana.”

“Monica has proven time and again that she has the best interests of Montanans in mind,” said MCV Executive Director Whitney Tawney. “Her extensive background fighting for Montanans proves that she is the best candidate to protect Montana’s clean air, clean water, public lands, and democracy.”

In July, Tranel announced her intention to run against incumbent Congressman Ryan Zinke, who has repeatedly shown that he is out of step with what Montanans want by voting to defund key government agencies, again and again failing to pass measures to fund the government, and by introducing legislation to mandate certain water levels for Flathead Lake despite objections from locals and scientists.

Tranel is a two time Olympian and noted energy attorney who has consistently fought for the people of Montana through her work. Well-versed in energy policy as a former Public Service Commission staffer, Monica has used that knowledge to ensure Northwestern Energy doesn’t have free reign over Montanans. In 2022, Tranel successfully argued a case against Northwestern Energy at the state Supreme Court to save Montanans $10 million dollars. Monica’s record shows that she will fight for Montanans energy freedom and a just transition to renewable energy despite attempts by corporations to keep Montanans paying high rates for out of date energy production.

Tranel was endorsed by MCV during her 2022 bid for the seat now held by Zinke.

Momentum continues as MCV prepares to endorse conservation champions ahead of the 2024 election. From the State Legislature and the Montana Supreme Court to top statewide positions, MCV is committed to supporting candidates who prioritize environmental stewardship. Further endorsements will be announced soon.
