MCV Release 2023 Legislative Scorecard

‘Big Sky State under attack like never before’

(HELENA, Mont.) Following the 68th Session of the Montana Legislature, Montana Conservation Voters released its highly anticipated 2023 Legislative Scorecard. This comprehensive report evaluates the voting records of Montana’s legislators and highlights the shortcomings of state officials while celebrating  those who remained committed to Montana’s public lands, clean air, and democracy.

MCV’s 2023 Legislative Scorecard is available online at mtvoters.org/scorecard.

The Scorecard represents MCV’s commitment to Montanans to hold elected officials accountable for their actions and promoting transparency in the legislative decision making process. Through a meticulous analysis of key votes and important bills, MCV scored  lawmakers based on their voting records to provide the people of Montana with valuable insights into their elected officials’ responsibility to protect Montana’s outdoor way of life.

While many legislators abandoned their conservation values during the session, all attempts to amend our Montana Constitution and our constitutional right to a clean and healthful environment failed and over 85% of the legislature stood its ground to prioritize public lands funding despite the Governor’s veto.

The sad reality is most of the legislature turned their backs on Montanans this session,” says Whitney Tawney, Executive Director of Montana Conservation Voters. “The Big Sky State was under attack like never before with blatant attempts to shut the people out of the process, dirty our clean air and water and defund our public lands and we hope Montanans use this scorecard to find out where their elected officials stood.”
