Gianforte and Fielder Earn National ‘Dirty Dozen’ Distinction

(BILLINGS, Mont.) – The League of Conservation Voters Victory Fund (LCV) today announced its 2020 “Dirty Dozen in the States” list, showcasing politicians who consistently side against clean water, clean air, and public lands–featuring Congressman Greg Gianforte and state senator Jennifer Fielder.

In response, the Montana Conservation Voters Action Fund released the following statement from Political Director Jake Brown:

“There’s no way to clean up Gianforte’s and Fielder’s dirty, anti-public lands records. These two are some of the most extreme candidates in Montana history and are a direct threat to our clean air and water. We encourage all Montana voters to reject these out of touch extremists this November.”

Fielder serves as the CEO of the controversial American Lands Council, which advocates for the selloff of federally owned public lands, and has been an outspoken advocate for a federal land transfer as a state senator. She has a 16% lifetime MCV score. Fielder is now running for Public Service Commission in District 4 against MCV-endorsed candidate Monica Tranel.

Congressman Greg Gianforte introduced a bill that would have removed protections for over 700,000 acres of wilderness and even sued to block access to a popular fishing site next to this mansion. Gianforte has also accepted over $200,000 from the oil and gas industry. He is currently a candidate for Governor against MCV-endorsed Mike Cooney.

Montana Conservation Voters and its associated political action committee, the MCV Congressional Action Fund, operate independently from the League of Conservation Voters and the LCV Victory Fund.
