MCV Job Opening: CANVASSER

Reports to: MCV Field Coordinator

Montana Conservation Voters seek well-organized CANVASSERS to engage voters one-on-one in Bozeman about a variety of vital issues important to protecting Montana as the Last Best Place. This boots-on-the-ground role would be great for a person who can lean into important conversations, has  a passion for conservation, strong sense of organization and the ability to work independently.

Montana Conservation Voters is a nonpartisan, nonprofit membership organization whose mission is to protect our climate, clean air and water, and public lands for our communities and future generations by supporting leaders who fight for conservation and by holding accountable leaders who do not. 

 

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Canvassers will talk to Gallatin County voters about the importance of electing candidates who will protect Montana’s Constitution and our freedom to recreate on public lands.


JOB DESCRIPTION: BOZEMAN CANVASSER

Bozeman canvassers will empower Montanans and amplify their voices by engaging them at their doors regarding the upcoming election with the aim of electing pro conservation candidates. Canvassers will be part of a small team committed to protecting Montana values. This is an excellent opportunity for those wanting to get more engaged and shape the future of Montana. 

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Knocking on voters’ doors and having guided conversations to educate Montanans about conservation issues
  • With training provided, entering accurate data about voters and conversations in the canvassing database
  • Being responsive to feedback from the Field Coordinator and assisting with administrative tasks related to canvassing

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful canvassers will have:

  • A strong commitment to MCV’s mission and goals
  • Experience following detailed directions and seeking feedback proactively from their supervisor
  • The ability to learn and share important information with the public with excellent attention to detail
  • A sense of self-motivation and ability to problem solve
  • Clear verbal, written and interpersonal skills within the canvassing team and with the public
  • Access to reliable transportation AND a smartphone or tablet that can be used while canvassing
  • The ability to work up to 40 hours per week. Evening shifts Monday through Thursday are from 3-7pm. Sunday shifts are from 1-7pm.

    Canvassers should plan to commit to at least three shifts per week for a minimum of 12 hours weekly. Availability for 6-hour Sunday shifts is strongly preferred, but not required. MCV offers flexibility in days and hours available.

Canvassers should expect to travel within the Bozeman area. Canvassers will work outside at least 80% of their workday and be on their feet walking for at least 80% of each work shift.

COMPENSATION

MCV is offering $25 per hour for the canvasser position. Canvassers can work up to 40 hours a week. MCV is not offering additional benefits for this position.
